The Great Aussie Adventure: Year 10’s Unforgettable Journey into the Wild

This past November,Year 10 students traded their desks for sleeping bags, their classrooms for campfires, and their daily routines for an adventure that would challenge and transform them. From 23 November to 3 December 2025, they embarked on the Great Aussie Adventure, a once-in-a-lifetimeexperienceand the only opportunity in their AIS journey to explore the untamed beauty and spirit of Australia.

A Progressive Journey: AIS Outdoor Education from Prep to Year 11

At the 91porn, we believe that some of life’s most powerful lessons happen outside. OurOutdoor Education programmetakes students on a carefully designed journey from their earliest years through to Year 11, building skills, characterand confidence along the way.

InElementary School, young learners start with day trips that spark curiosity about the natural world. As they grow, so do their adventures, progressing to overnight camps and culminating in a week-long overseas expedition in Year 5. These early experiences lay the groundwork for independence, resilienceand a love of exploration.

BySecondary School, the stakes rise. Students face more demanding physical and mental challenges, from rock climbing and white-water rafting to trekking through remote landscapes. Year 10 marks a pivotal moment: an overseas expedition designed to test and refine everythingthey’velearnt. In Year 11, students can choose toparticipatein international service-learning trips, where adventure meets purpose and global citizenship takes root.

Year 10 at Bush Camp Biloela: Where the Adventure Began

Located just two hours from Sydney within 250 acres of Australian bushland, provided the setting for this year’s Year 10 expedition. Students hiked into camp with their gear, prepared meals over open fires and camped outdoors.

Activities included canoeing, abseiling, raftbuildingand bush navigation. Each activity required teamwork and problem-solving, giving students the chance to learn about the environment and work together in new ways.

Lessons Learnt Around the Campfire

Away from their usual routines and technology, students focused on working together and supporting one another. Evening campfires provided time for reflection, conversation and building friendships across the year group.

The camp offered more than outdoor skills. Students developed resilience, practisedindependenceand experienced the value of collaboration in practical situations.

“This trip allowed me to make new friends, see many of Australia’s natural wondersand alsomade me feel courageous and confident. I really enjoyed when everyone sat together around the campfire. ”–Echo ,Year 10 Student

Why Outdoor Education Matters

At AIS, Outdoor Education helps students develop critical thinking, adaptabilityand problem-solving abilities. These experiences build confidence and resilience that students can apply in academic, personaland future professional contexts.

Through our program, students also develop a sense of responsibility towards themselves, their peers and the broader community. They return from these experiences with new perspectives and practical skills that contribute to their overall development.

A Rite of Passage

The Great Aussie Adventure is a celebration of how far our Year 10 students have come and a glimpse of whothey’rebecoming. It’sa rite of passage that reminds us all: real growth happens when we step outside our comfort zones, embrace the unknown and trust in the journey.

Choosing AIS for Your Child’s Future

Congratulations to every Year 12 graduate. Your commitment, balance and resilience have delivered results that open a wealth of global pathways. True to the spirit of AIS, the Class of 2025 has also excelled beyond the classroom in leadership, service, creativity and sporting achievement.

As a non-selective school, AIS continues to achieve strong year-on-year results through a shared commitment to excellence across the cohort, supported by expert teachers and a culture that balances high expectations with individualised guidance.

An impressive 40% of the cohort achieved an ATAR of 90+, highlighting both individual excellence and the strength of support across the school.

University Success: A Legacy of Ongoing Excellence

While the Class of 2025 eagerly awaits their university offers, we celebrate AIS’s strong track record of graduate success—a legacy that this year’s cohort is poised to continue.

Welcoming the New Head of School to AIS

Steven Lupton - Head of School 91porn | AIS Singapore

From Sydney Grammar to Repton Abu Dhabi: Leading AIS into a Future of Excellence

We’re thrilled to introduce our new Head of School, Steve Lupton, whose journey in education spans over two decades and reflects a deep commitment to integrity, growth, and excellence. You can read more in the latest ANZA Magazine feature, check it out .

Tell us more about yourself and your background. How did you start in education?

Education has always been part of who I am. I began as a physical education teacher in Australia, where sport taught me teamwork, resilience, and humility, values that translate into the classroom. My career took me from Head of PE in London to Sydney Grammar School, and then nearly nine rewarding years at Repton Abu Dhabi, where I became Principal. Over two decades, my guiding values of integrity, respect, growth, and challenge have shaped how I live, teach, and lead. A mentor once told me, “Integrity builds trust, and trust builds everything else.” Those words have become my compass in leadership and life.

What do you think are key areas a school should focus on?

The most crucial focus for any school is creating the conditions for people to thrive. Academic excellence is always the goal, but it’s achieved through a culture that values wellbeing, creativity, and genuine inclusion. Strong schools are built on strong relationships among teachers, students, and families, grounded in mutual trust and respect. In Australian culture, we pride ourselves on a flat structure in which everyone, regardless of title or role, deserves the same courtesy and voice. Ultimately, schools should encourage personal growth, community connection, and character so that students leave not only academically prepared but also resilient, empathetic, and ready for whatever comes next.

Steven Lupton Family

What are you most excited about for the upcoming school year with AIS?

I’m excited to meet our students, families, and staff and experience the relationships that make this community special. I look forward to seeing students excel in academics, sport, the arts, and service learning, where character shines brightest. I can’t wait for those whole-school moments that bring us together: assemblies, carnivals, performances, and milestones. Sport taught me that a great team always beats a great player, and that spirit of teamwork and shared success is what I hope to strengthen at AIS.

What aspects of Singapore are you excited to explore or enjoy?

Singapore is an incredible place, modern, dynamic, and wonderfully diverse. My family and I can’t wait to explore local neighbourhoods, visit the hawker centres (I already have quite a list!), and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. After nearly a decade in the Middle East, being somewhere that blends nature with urban energy feels refreshing. Joining AIS is deeply meaningful. When I first visited campus and heard students sing the Australian national anthem, I felt chills. Moving here is both a new adventure and a homecoming, especially as our two sons reconnect with life closer to Australia.

What are the two or three most critical things you’re looking forward to focusing on in your new role at AIS?

I’m honoured to continue the legacy of excellence Ms. Karrie Dietz built at AIS. My priority is to listen, learn, and collaborate with our exceptional team to sustain that momentum. My leadership philosophy is firmly rooted in “high support and high challenge”. When teachers thrive, students naturally thrive. I’m excited to explore innovation and emerging technologies that enrich learning while preserving our human touch. Nurturing student voice and leadership will remain central, empowering them to shape their experiences and make an impact beyond the classroom. Strong partnerships among parents, staff, and students will be a key focus because when we work together, incredible things happen.

Schools for Schools: Service Learning That Creates Lasting Impact

For nearly two decades, the 91porn in Singapore has run one of the country’s most established service learning programmes. Schools for Schools empowers students to volunteer overseas, supporting partner schools in Nepal and India while developing youth leadership skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

  • Programme: Schools for Schools
  • Year Level: Year 11 Legacy Project
  • Partner Regions: Nepal (Himalayan Trust/REED), India
  • Total Raised Since 2007: S$400,000+
  • 2025 Fundraising: S$24,850

What began in 2007 with AIS teacher Ruth Luthi’s involvement in a teacher training program in Saleri has grown into a transformational partnership with the . Together, AIS and REED have supported schools in the Everest region with a shared mission: improving access to quality education in remote communities.

Today, the Schools for Schools co-curricular activity (CCA) continues to stand as a testament to student leadership, compassion, and global citizenship.

18 Years of Student Service Learning

Since its inception, the Schools for Schools initiative has raised over S$400,000, helping to fund:

  • New school buildings
  • Teaching resources
  • Vegetable gardens
  • Toilets and sanitation facilities
  • A playground
  • The ongoing commitment to pay teachers’ salaries each year

This sustained support ensures that students in remote regions of India and Nepal can learn in safe, well-resourced environments — opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.

Year 11 Youth Leadership Programme

Schools for Schools is a Year 11 Legacy Project, giving students authentic opportunities to plan, lead, and execute fundraising initiatives throughout the year. From bake sales and barbecues to sporting events and talent shows, students have discovered firsthand what it means to turn teamwork and creativity into meaningful change.

The programme develops youth leadership skills through hands-on project management, from budgeting and stakeholder coordination to event execution.

In 2025 alone, AIS students raised:

  • S$12,000 for teachers’ salaries in Nepal
  • S$1,500 for partner schools in India
  • S$11,350 from the 2025 Global Festival, donated to Loding Khola, Nepal, to rebuild the hydropower pump originally funded by AIS in 2012 and destroyed in the 2024 landslides

This student-led service learning initiative demonstrates how meaningful volunteer work creates lasting change in underserved communities.

Their efforts extend far beyond fundraising. Students have travelled to India and Nepal to connect directly with the communities they support — renovating classrooms, teaching local students, and participating in cultural exchanges that inspire deeper empathy and global understanding.

AIS Students Creating Lasting Impact Across India and Nepal

The heart of Schools for Schools lies in the personal transformations that occur when students step outside the classroom and into communities very different from their own.

Students who volunteer overseas through Schools for Schools consistently describe the experience as transformative. Here is what recent participants shared about their service learning journeys.

Seeing Impact Firsthand

“The most meaningful part of Schools4Schools was seeing firsthand the difference we’ve made and the joy we’ve brought to the communities. It was really different from learning in the classroom — nothing was planned, things changed every day, and we had to adapt and work through every challenge together.”

Atti, Year 12 (Nepal Trip 2025)

Human Connection Beyond Borders

“The India service trip was such a meaningful experience. After a year of fundraising, we hiked to two remote schools to deliver the materials and supplies we’d collected. Playing cricket and connecting with the students made all our efforts feel real and worthwhile. I came home with a deeper sense of gratitude and a true understanding of what service and human connection really mean.”

Nova, Year 11 (India Trip 2025)

Leadership Through Action

“This experience taught me how to be organised and run fundraising events. I didn’t realise before how much coordination it takes — from budgeting and time management to getting the right people and faculties involved. Our group learned a lot about maintaining communication, solving problems as they came up, and sharing ideas to raise funds that truly support these communities.”

Carina, Year 12 (Nepal Trip 2024)

Moments That Stay Forever

“The S4S India trip was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. From landing in Delhi to the day we left, I felt fully immersed in the culture and excitement. Hiking to the schools, gardening, and playing cricket with the children were unforgettable moments that pushed me out of my comfort zone. I also bonded with my classmates in ways I never could at school and discovered a love for new experiences — even Bollywood dancing!”

Jemima, Year 11 (India Trip 2025)

Developing Youth Leadership Through Service

Schools for Schools continues to shape AIS students into compassionate leaders, critical thinkers, and globally minded young adults. The impact they create — whether building infrastructure, funding education, or forming meaningful relationships — is felt long after each trip ends.

As we celebrate another successful year of service, we are incredibly proud of our students who live out the AIS values of respect, effort, and compassion in every corner of the world.

Together, we are building brighter futures, one school, one fundraiser, and one act of service at a time.

Celebrating Excellence and Connection in Our Alumni Community

We were immensely proud to welcome back, one of our earliest graduates who has become an internationally renowned cybersecurity expert and founder ofHave I BeenPwned?, a platform that has revolutionised online security awareness worldwide.

A Memorable Homecoming

On 3 September, Troy returned to the91porn in Singapore(AIS)to reconnect with our community and share his remarkable journey from student to global technology leader. His visit created meaningful moments across multiple year levels, demonstratingthe powerful impact of our alumni network in connecting past and present.

Engaging Secondary Students

Troy spent time with ourYear 10 and 12 students, offering insights into his career path and the evolving landscape of cybersecurity. He emphasised how the academic foundations he developed at AIS—particularly in problem-solving, research, and critical thinking—became instrumental in shaping his professional success.

Inspiring Our Youngest Innovators

Perhaps mostmemorable was Troy’s engagement with our Year 5 students, who were preparing fortheirIBPYP Exhibition. These young learners came prepared with thoughtful questions about AI and digital safety, demonstratingthe curiosity and critical thinking we nurture at AIS.

One group pitched an innovative idea for a child-friendly search engine. Troy provided encouragement and expert advice on how they might bring their concept to life, showing our students that their ideas have real-world potential.

Honouring Alumni Excellence

During his visit, we proudly unveiled our AIS Alumni Wall, which honours Troy alongside other distinguished graduates whose achievements exemplify the lasting impact of an AIS education. This permanent tribute celebrates the enduring connection between our school and the remarkable individuals who have walked our halls.

Guiding Our Parent Community

Troy’s contribution extended beyond the classroom. That evening, he led a special community session for parents, offering valuable insights on guiding children in technology use and emphasising the importance of digital responsibility in the age of AI. His practical advice resonated with families navigating the complexities of raising digitally connected children.

The Power of Alumni Connection

Troy Hunt’s visit powerfully illustrated what makes our alumni community so special. These connections inspired our current students to see the possibilities ahead, showing them that the skills and values they develop at AIS can lead to meaningful, world-changing careers.

As Troy’s journeydemonstrates, an AIS education provides more than academic knowledge—it cultivates the critical thinking, innovation, and resilience that enable our graduates to become leaders in their fields and positive contributors to society.

We were grateful to Troy for taking the time to return and share his story, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate theachievements of our alumni communityas they make their mark on the world.

Pioneering Early Learning Program at AIS

The award for Best Early Learning Program for the second consecutive year reflects the forward-thinking approach to 21st-century education. AIS offers a caring, holistic environment that supports children’s learning through constructive conflict and nurturing relationships.

The school’s innovative spaces, such as the STEAM Atelier and technology-equipped classrooms, continuously evolve to meet the needs of modern learners. These spaces are pivotal in aligning with students’ developmental, personal, and institutional goals.

Central to AIS’s educational philosophy is a commitment to student-centred education. The school values meaningful engagement over superficial gestures, evident in initiatives like the “Global Citizens Committee”, where students as young as four years old actively participate in event planning for the annual celebration of diversity which builds confidence and leadership abilities. This inclusive approach empowers students to effect change, as demonstrated by a group proposing playground improvements currently under consideration by the leadership team. The world class curriculum is further enhanced by the bespoke Early Learning Village which is the world’s largest pre-school.

AIS’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, involving families in the learning process through workshops and providing comprehensive support, ensuring the success and wellbeing of every child.

The teachers and staff have worked in true partnership with me to ensure my children are thriving. I feel that I can approach the team at AIS at any time, and they will listen to me and partner with me to help my children reach their full potential. The AIS team plays a critical role in my family.” – The Mayega Family

Nurturing Student Wellbeing

The commitment to holistic development at AIS is exemplified through the integration of well-being and academic growth to form a pioneering “Academic Wellbeing program”. As a core part of the AIS experience, the Academic Wellbeing program recognises that academic success is intertwined with social, emotional, and psychological well-being.
