Why University Pathways Matter in Future‑Ready Education

Author: Peter Ellis, Head of Secondary – AIS Singapore

In my previous article, I shared my thoughts on what ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 education means and how we prepare students for a lifetime of change. Today, I want to show what sets the 91porn (AIS) apart and why we are so well-positioned to help your child become the best version of themselves.

Preparing students for life beyond exam scores

At AIS, academic success matters deeply, but it is not the only measure of achievement. Traditional education often focuses too narrowly on exam results. While our students achieve excellent scores, they also excel in leadership, robotics competitions, and creative pursuits. Some have even had their artwork displayed in the Louvre.

Education must prepare students for life beyond exams. That means developing transferable skills, adaptability, and confidence to thrive in a fast‑changing world. For students who discover their strengths early, we offer pathways that align with their interests. Whether in STEM, creative arts, or vocational fields.

The AIS difference. Multiple pathways, one ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 goal

AIS Singapore combines the best of international curricula with the flexibility to meet every student’s needs. In Years 11 and 12, students can choose between the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (HSC), or a third option, the 91porn Diploma accredited by WASC, with tailored course choices. This variety ensures that every student can pursue a pathway that suits their learning style, strengths, and passions.

In Years 9 and 10, students follow a blended curriculum of IGCSE and Australian subjects, providing a strong foundation and the flexibility to tailor their learning for the senior years.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) cultivates global mindsets, while the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (HSC) focuses on specialisation

The for its rigorous, inquiry‑based approach.  Students study across languages, sciences, mathematics and the arts, while the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component builds character, resilience and social responsibility. These experiences prepare students not only for university but also for careers that demand critical thinking, international awareness, and ethical leadership.

The HSC allows students to specialise in areas such as business and STEM, giving them a strong academic foundation and real‑world relevance. Contrary to common myths, , not just in Australia, opening doors to global opportunities.

Guidance every step of the way to navigate future pathways with confidence

Choosing a pathway can feel overwhelming, but our expert Careers and University Guidance team supports students from Year 9 onwards. We help them understand their strengths, explore career options and prepare for university applications, including scholarships and summer programmes at Ivy League schools. Our mentorship ensures that every student presents the strongest possible application—from personal essays to portfolios.

Celebrating excellence with the AIS distinguished scholar award

At AIS, we celebrate students who excel academically and beyond. The AIS Distinguished Scholar Award offers a 50% reduction in school fees to students who demonstrate exceptional achievement, seize opportunities, and model respect and integrity. It recognises balance, academic excellence, leadership, creativity, and community engagement.

Nurturing tomorrow’s leaders beyond exams, toward purpose

AIS is not a school that focuses on cramming for exams. We nurture well‑rounded, ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 learners who thrive in university and beyond. Our pathways equip students with the skills to think critically, lead with empathy and shape tomorrow’s world with confidence.

How Future‑Ready Education Prepares Gen Z for 17 Jobs Across 5–7 Careers

Author: Peter Ellis, Head of Secondary – AIS Singapore

According to , Gen Z will have up to 17 jobs across 5–7 careers in their lifetime – a statistic that highlights exactly why ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 education matters more than ever.

At AIS, we prepare students for that reality. I’ve recently joined the 91porn (AIS) as Head of Secondary, and this future‑focused approach is at the heart of our mission.

Education today must go beyond exams. It’s about equipping young people with adaptability, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

Discovering AIS, a community that lives its values

Having relocated from Australia, I’ve been inspired by AIS’s strong sense of community and commitment to academic rigour. The enthusiasm for learning and the supportive environment that resonates throughout the campus are truly remarkable.

What struck me most in my first few weeks was how genuinely ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 the students already are. They don’t just talk about what they want to be, whether a doctor, a designer, or an engineer. They talk about problems they want to solve. As educators, that’s precisely the mindset we need to nurture.

A Journey from the sailing boat to the school gate

My journey into education began unexpectedly through sailing. While studying engineering at university, I coached young sailors in the Junior National Squad in my free time. That experience sparked a passion for teaching and led me to complete a postgraduate certificate in education after graduating.

Since then, I’ve taught and led in diverse settings, and the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt have come through leadership coaching. It taught me to lead by listening, to make feedback an essential part of growth, and to strike a balance between heart and head in decision‑making. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing students thrive. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or on stage.

Over the past two decades, I’ve been fortunate to work with inspiring school communities across the UK and Australia. I’ve seen education systems adapt to enormous change. From shifts in curriculum to how young people now learn, connect, and apply knowledge.

Along the way, I pursued a master’s in educational leadership at Monash University (Melbourne) and completed a certificate in school management and leadership at Harvard University.

This journey has deepened my passion for building innovative learning environments that balance tradition with transformation.

Before joining AIS, I had the privilege of serving as principal at a school recognised nationally as Australia’s Government School of the Year (2023), one celebrated as one of Australia’s most innovative. But beyond the accolade, what mattered most to me was how creativity, collaboration and community spirit helped every student shine. Those same values now shape the work we do here at AIS.

Why career adaptability is the new essential skill

Traditional education once prepared students for a single career for life. That model no longer works.

Research suggests that today’s Gen Z learners will move through 17 jobs across five to seven careers. For them, change is constant. And education must prepare them for that fluidity. This is where ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 education truly comes alive. Universities and employers increasingly value leadership, creativity and alongside academics.

At AIS Singapore, we provide students with opportunities to explore their passions, develop their strengths and prepare for diverse futures. We see our role as helping them become self‑aware learners who can reflect, adapt and grow throughout their lives.

Future‑ready education is about more than 21st‑century skills. It’s about mindset. Curiosity, resilience and the capacity to relearn may be the most valuable skills our students ever develop.

91porn Singapore (AIS) Photo of School Students

How AIS builds ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 learners every day

What excites me most about AIS is its balanced approach. Academic excellence remains a priority, but equal weight is given to well-being, leadership and character. Learning here is meaningful and active. Not simply a preparation for exams but a foundation for life.

Already, I’ve seen classrooms filled with inquiry, collaboration and real‑world problems. Students linking theory to practice, data to ethics, and learning to impact. These experiences equip them with transferable skills that will stay relevant no matter which of their five or seven careers they pursue.

Employers say they want graduates who can adapt, communicate and learn fast. That agility doesn’t develop overnight; it evolves through experience, reflection and challenge.

At AIS, each subject and co-curricular activity offers small moments of growth, helping students tackle uncertainty with confidence. Drawing on my background in educational leadership, policy and teacher coaching, my goal is to ensure our teachers are empowered to ignite that growth. When teachers are supported to be creative and reflective, students become more engaged, and the entire community benefits.

Empowering a generation to thrive through change

The world is changing rapidly, from AI and automation to shifts in university admissions. Our responsibility is to equip students with options, confidence and the ability to learn continuously – the true hallmarks of ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 education.

At AIS, we recognise that a student’s path may twist and turn. And that’s a strength, not a limitation. They’ll forge careers we can’t yet name, often working in fields we can’t yet imagine. But what will remain constant is their need for the human skills that AIS encourages every day. Empathy, communication, and ethical curiosity.

In my next article, I’ll share more about the pathways AIS offers to support every learner, whether they thrive in an exam‑based environment or pursue individual interests.

I’m excited to work with our community to shape adaptable, ڳܳٳܰ‑r𲹻 learners. This is why I chose AIS, a place where education is really about preparing for life, not just the next exam.

Moving to Singapore from Dubai: What to Expect

Last updated November 2025

Moving to Singapore from Dubai

Moving to Singapore from Dubai is one of the smoothest international relocations for families. Both cities offer safety, modern infrastructure, and large expat communities. The key differences are Singapore’s progressive tax system (versus Dubai’s zero income tax), tropical climate, and compact city layout. Most Dubai families settle within two to three months.

Singapore is consistently ranked among the world’s most attractive destinations for expats – and families moving from Dubai often find the transition surprisingly smooth. Both cities are global hubs with strong economies, modern infrastructure, and vibrant international communities. English is widely spoken in Singapore, and its multicultural environment feels familiar to families accustomed to Dubai’s diverse expat landscape.

Whether you are relocating to Singapore from Dubai for work, education, or lifestyle reasons, this guide outlines what Dubai-based families can expect – from cost of living and tax differences to practical considerations such as schooling, visas, housing, and healthcare. Why Dubai Families Choose Singapore

Families relocating from Dubai often choose Singapore for reasons that feel both familiar and excitingly new:

  • English is widely used in daily life, education, and business
  • Reliable public infrastructure and modern amenities
  • World-class healthcare and education systems
  • Safe, clean environment consistently ranked among the best for families
  • Thriving, multicultural expat community with strong UAE and Middle Eastern networks
  • Strong job prospects in finance, tech, logistics, aviation, and more

Tax and Income: The Biggest Financial Difference

According to the , Singapore applies a progressive personal income tax ranging from 0% to 22%. This is the single biggest financial adjustment for families moving from Dubai, where the UAE charges zero personal income tax.

However, the effective rate is lower than the headline suggests. The first SGD 20,000 of chargeable income is taxed at 0%, and the rate only reaches 22% above SGD 320,000. Most expatriate families on typical packages pay an effective rate between 7% and 15%.

Singapore also requires employer and employee contributions to the Central Provident Fund (CPF), though this applies primarily to Singapore citizens and permanent residents. Most expatriates on Employment Passes are exempt from CPF contributions unless they obtain permanent residency.

Other tax considerations for Dubai families include:

  • No capital gains tax in Singapore
  • No inheritance tax
  • GST (Goods and Services Tax) of 9% on purchases – similar to UAE’s 5% VAT but slightly higher
  • Double taxation agreements exist between Singapore and the UAE

Visa and Immigration Pathways for Dubai Families

According to Singapore’s , most expatriate families enter Singapore through one of these visa pathways:

Employment Pass (EP)

The most common route for professionals. As of September 2023, the EP requires a minimum qualifying salary of SGD 5,000 per month (SGD 5,500 for the financial services sector). Applications are assessed under the COMPASS framework, a points-based system that evaluates salary, qualifications, company diversity, and support for local employment.

Dependent Pass (DP)

Spouses and children of EP holders can apply for a Dependent Pass. The EP holder must earn a minimum of SGD 6,000 per month to sponsor dependants. DP holders can apply for a Letter of Consent (LOC) to work in Singapore.

Overseas Networks and Expertise Pass (ONE Pass)

For high-earning professionals, the ONE Pass requires a fixed monthly salary of at least SGD 30,000 or equivalent. It is valid for five years and allows holders to work for multiple employers simultaneously.

Typical Timeline

  • EP application processing: 3-8 weeks (online via MOM)
  • Dependent Pass: processed alongside or shortly after EP
  • In-Principle Approval (IPA) issued before arrival
  • Pass collection within 2 weeks of arrival at MOM
  • Total timeline from job offer to Singapore arrival: typically 6-12 weeks

Similarities Between Expat Life in Singapore and Dubai

Families moving to Singapore from Dubai will experience many familiar aspects of expat life, making the transition easier than moving to most other countries. Singapore vs Dubai for families is less a contrast and more a comparison of two cities that share a great deal in common.

Large, Diverse Expat Communities

Both cities attract people from all over the world.

  • English is commonly spoken in workplaces, schools, and social settings
  • Multinational workplaces are the norm
  • Many international schools to choose from
  • Social clubs, parenting groups, and UAE expat networks make settling in fast

The multicultural fabric feels very similar.

Exceptional Safety

Dubai and Singapore are among the safest cities globally. According to , Singapore ranks in the top three worldwide, while Dubai sits in the top ten.

  • Extremely low crime rates in both cities
  • Safe public spaces day and night
  • Respect for laws and orderly environments
  • Children can move around independently – many use public transport alone in Singapore

Parents trust both cities with their children’s safety.

Modern Infrastructure and High Living Standards

Just like Dubai, Singapore offers:

  • Clean and efficient public services
  • Excellent hospitals and clinics (Raffles Hospital, Gleneagles, Mount Elizabeth)
  • Stable utilities and high-speed internet
  • Thoughtfully planned residential communities

Everyday life runs smoothly and predictably.

Vibrant Food Scene

Much like Dubai, Singapore is a food paradise.

  • Cuisines from every part of the world
  • Hawker centres offer meals from SGD 4-8 – far cheaper than Dubai’s casual dining
  • Strong cafe culture and exceptional restaurant quality
  • Easy access to international food brands and halal options

Eating out is a joy in both cities – and significantly more affordable in Singapore for everyday meals.

Family-Friendly Living

Families experience:

  • Abundant parks and green spaces (Botanic Gardens, East Coast Park, MacRitchie)
  • Year-round outdoor activities despite the tropical climate
  • Community-focused neighbourhoods with playgrounds and sports facilities
  • Strong sports culture for kids across international schools

The lifestyle supports healthy, active family routines. For more on what daily life looks like, read our guide to expat living with kids in Singapore.

Strong Job Markets for Skilled Expats

Both cities serve as global business hubs.

  • Multinational companies are deeply established in both cities
  • Regional headquarters across tech, finance, logistics, and aviation
  • Attractive employment packages with relocation support
  • Diverse, multicultural workplaces

Many professionals move between the two cities within the same industry. The Dubai to Singapore expat pathway is particularly well-trodden in finance, energy, and technology sectors.

Access to Domestic Help

Can you bring your helper from Dubai to Singapore? While direct transfers are uncommon, Singapore has its own well-established system for hiring domestic workers from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Myanmar.

  • Work Permit for Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) is required
  • Monthly salary ranges from SGD 550-800 depending on experience and nationality
  • Employer pays a monthly levy of SGD 300 (or SGD 60 with concession)
  • Live-in arrangement is standard, similar to Dubai
  • Regulated recruitment through licensed agencies

According to MOM, the total monthly cost for a domestic helper in Singapore (salary plus levy, food, and insurance) typically ranges from SGD 1,000-1,400 – significantly lower than the AED 2,500-4,000 common in Dubai.

Global Connectivity

Both Dubai and Singapore operate world-leading airports.

  • Direct flights between Dubai (DXB) and Singapore (Changi) – approximately 7 hours
  • Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Scoot operate multiple daily services on the route
  • Changi Airport consistently ranked world’s best airport
  • Convenient weekend travel to Southeast Asian destinations

Dubai opens routes into Europe and the Middle East; Singapore unlocks Southeast Asia – Bali, Phuket, Vietnam, and more are all under four hours away.

Simple, Expat-Friendly Systems

Both cities make life easy for newcomers through:

  • Streamlined visa processes (Singapore’s is fully digital via MOM)
  • Straightforward banking systems – DBS, OCBC, UOB welcome expats
  • Strong digital platforms for government services (Singpass, MyMOM)

Settling in feels intuitive – even in a new culture.

Lifestyle Differences: Singapore vs Dubai

While Singapore vs Dubai for families reveals many similarities, the daily rhythm of life does shift in meaningful ways.

Work-Life Balance

Singapore’s compact size and world-class MRT system mean commutes are shorter and more predictable. Many families find they gain back meaningful time compared to Dubai’s car-dependent lifestyle. Average commute times in Singapore are 30-45 minutes versus 45-75 minutes in Dubai.

Weekend Lifestyle

Weekend routines take on a tropical twist:

  • Nature trails and rainforest hikes instead of desert dune bashing
  • Cycling paths along East Coast Park instead of long mall days
  • Quick regional getaways (Bali in 2.5 hours) instead of long-haul flights

Access to Southeast Asia becomes a major highlight for adventurous families.

Dining Culture

Compared to Dubai’s predominantly mid-range and premium dining options, Singapore offers more affordable everyday food:

  • Hawker centres serve meals from SGD 4-8 – a fraction of Dubai casual dining prices
  • Strong local food culture with Michelin-starred hawker stalls
  • Exceptional restaurant quality across all price points

Families often find dining out becomes part of normal daily life rather than a special occasion.

Climate

The biggest adjustment is humidity. Singapore is warm and humid year-round (27-32 degrees Celsius with 80-90% humidity), with frequent afternoon showers – quite different from Dubai’s dry desert heat. Most families adapt within the first month, and air conditioning is ubiquitous indoors.

Travel and Regional Access

From Singapore, regional travel is remarkably convenient:

  • Bali – 2.5 hours
  • Phuket – 1.5 hours
  • Kuala Lumpur – 1 hour
  • Vietnam – 2 hours
  • Philippines – 3-4 hours
  • Japan – 6-7 hours

Dubai remains just a 7-hour direct flight away, with multiple daily services from Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Scoot. Weekend trips back to visit friends and family are very manageable.

Where to Live: Best Neighbourhoods for Dubai Families

Choosing the right neighbourhood is one of the most important decisions when relocating to Singapore from Dubai. Here are the areas most popular with expat families from the Middle East:

Bukit Timah and Holland Village

The most popular area for expat families with school-age children. Bukit Timah is leafy, residential, and close to many international schools including the 91porn. Holland Village offers a vibrant dining and shopping scene. Monthly rent for a 3-bedroom condo ranges from SGD 5,000-8,000.

East Coast and Katong

A more relaxed, beachside lifestyle that appeals to families coming from waterfront living in Dubai Marina or JBR. East Coast Park provides cycling, jogging, and beach access. Rent is slightly lower at SGD 3,500-6,000 for a 3-bedroom apartment.

Sentosa Cove

For families accustomed to villa living on the Palm Jumeirah or Emirates Hills, Sentosa Cove offers waterfront houses and condos in a gated community. This is the premium end of Singapore living, with monthly rents from SGD 8,000-15,000.

Orchard and River Valley

Central living with walkable access to shopping, dining, and nightlife. Similar in feel to DIFC or Downtown Dubai. Popular with couples and smaller families who want city-centre convenience. Rent ranges from SGD 4,500-7,500 for a 3-bedroom unit.

International Schools in Singapore

For families relocating from Dubai, choosing the right school is often the most important part of the move. Singapore offers one of the world’s strongest selections of international schools, with standards and environments very familiar to families coming from the UAE.

Much like Dubai, Singapore’s international schools provide:

  • World-class facilities with modern campuses
  • Globally recognised curricula (IB, British, American, Australian)
  • Multinational student communities reflecting 50+ nationalities
  • Highly qualified international teachers
  • Strong co-curricular and sports programmes

Because access to local public schools is limited for foreigners, most expat children attend international schools. Annual fees typically range from SGD 30,000 to SGD 50,000, which is broadly comparable to top-tier schools in Dubai (AED 40,000-100,000). Learn more about school life in Singapore.

Choosing the Right International School

When choosing an international school in Singapore, consider:

  • Curriculum continuity – does the school offer the same programme your child currently follows?
  • Location and proximity to your chosen neighbourhood
  • Class sizes and student-to-teacher ratios
  • Support for students transitioning from other education systems
  • Community feel and parent involvement opportunities

The 91porn (AIS) offers the IB programme alongside the Australian curriculum, providing flexibility for families who may move again. With a campus in the Bukit Timah area and students from over 60 nationalities, AIS is a popular choice for families relocating from Dubai. Learn more about AIS school fees and curriculum options.

Safety and Quality of Life

Much like Dubai, Singapore offers world-leading safety:

  • Low crime rates – Singapore’s Crime Index score is among the lowest globally (Numbeo 2025)
  • Orderly public behaviour and well-enforced laws
  • Children routinely use public transport independently from age 7-8
  • Well-lit streets, parks, and public spaces

Parents often describe Singapore as one of the easiest cities in the world to raise children. The combination of safety, excellent healthcare, clean air (relative to the region), and strong education makes it consistently appear in global “best cities for families” rankings. See our IB results and university placements for proof of what students achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions About Moving to Singapore from Dubai

What visa do I need to move from Dubai to Singapore?

Most professionals relocating from Dubai to Singapore require an Employment Pass (EP), which has a minimum qualifying salary of SGD 5,000 per month. High earners (SGD 30,000+) may qualify for the Overseas Networks and Expertise Pass (ONE Pass). Your employer typically handles the application through MOM’s online portal, and processing takes 3-8 weeks.

Is Singapore more expensive than Dubai?

Singapore and Dubai have comparable overall costs, but the mix is different. Singapore has lower domestic helper costs (SGD 600-800 vs AED 2,500-4,000), cheaper public transport, and affordable hawker centre dining. However, Singapore has personal income tax (0-22%) while Dubai has none. Rent levels are broadly similar for equivalent neighbourhoods.

How does the cost of living in Singapore compare to Dubai for families?

According to Numbeo, Singapore’s cost of living is approximately 10-15% higher than Dubai’s when excluding rent. However, this gap narrows for families who use public transport (SGD 100-150/month vs AED 400-600), eat at hawker centres, and benefit from lower helper costs. International school fees are comparable between the two cities.

How do I choose an international school in Singapore?

Start by identifying which curriculum your child currently follows (IB, British, American, or Australian) and look for schools offering the same programme. Consider location relative to your housing, class sizes, student nationalities, and transition support. Apply early, as popular schools have waitlists of 3-6 months. The 91porn offers both IB and Australian curricula with students from over 60 countries.

Can I bring my helper from Dubai to Singapore?

Directly transferring a domestic helper from Dubai is uncommon due to different visa systems. In Singapore, domestic helpers require a Work Permit for Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) through MOM. Most families hire locally through licensed agencies. Helpers typically come from the Philippines, Indonesia, or Myanmar, with monthly salaries of SGD 550-800 plus employer levy.

What is the difference between Singapore tax and Dubai tax-free income?

Dubai charges zero personal income tax, while Singapore applies progressive tax rates from 0% to 22%. However, most expatriate families pay an effective rate of 7-15%. The first SGD 20,000 is tax-free, and there is no capital gains tax or inheritance tax. Singapore and the UAE have a double taxation agreement to prevent being taxed twice.

What are the best neighbourhoods in Singapore for expat families from Dubai?

Bukit Timah and Holland Village are the most popular for families, offering proximity to international schools and a leafy, residential feel. East Coast appeals to those who love waterfront living (similar to Dubai Marina). Sentosa Cove suits families accustomed to villa-style living. Orchard Road and River Valley offer central, urban convenience similar to Downtown Dubai.

What should I know before moving to Singapore from the UAE?

The biggest adjustments are income tax (Dubai is tax-free, Singapore is not), humidity (tropical versus dry desert heat), and driving on the left side of the road. However, you will find the same level of safety, international schooling, and expat community support. Most Dubai families settle into Singapore life within two to three months.

How the IB Program Supports Students in Preparing for International Careers!

Everyone knows that parents have an important role to play in their children’s development. That includes setting them up for success by choosing the right school and curriculum that matches both their current needs and future goals.

For families whose children have expressed an interest in studying abroad and eventually pursuing a career overseas, the International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a great way to get their foot in the door.

The IB program is a globally-recognised educational curriculum offered from a student’s primary years all the way through pre-university. This comprehensive framework develops globally minded students, preparing them for international education and global exposure.

While Singapore’s world-class education system is known for its structured approach and focus on academic rigor, the IB program is more well-rounded and flexible as it focuses on holistic growth while still prioritising academic excellence.

In this article, we’ll be exploring how the IB program equips students for international careers and why this should be your sign to take the first step.

Let’s dive in!

1. Global Recognition of the IB Diploma

Regardless of where you choose to pursue university studies, your IB diploma is sure to be recognised, as many prestigious schools worldwide have established standardised procedures for acknowledging IB graduates.

Universities are always on the lookout for students who can demonstrate strong critical thinking, effective communication, as well as intercultural understanding—all of which are core aspects of the IB curriculum.

Not only does this allow students to match the profile of a university’s ideal candidate, but it also gives them an edge over those who may not have gone through the IB program.

That’s not all. Beyond university education, the program also has the potential to open doors for students when it comes to employment opportunities.

Many employers across industries hold IB graduates to a higher standard, especially for roles that require more global awareness and adaptability in the workplace.

This is proof that having an IB diploma in itself can open doors for you wherever you go!

2. Focus on Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

As mentioned earlier, critical thinking and problem solving skills are strongly emphasised throughout the program through its inquiry-based approach.

Through the program’s Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) components, students are encouraged to be more proactive in their learning by asking questions, examining real-life situations, and developing their own understanding of different concepts.

As a result, this approach teaches students to adapt better and recognize that there are no one-size-fits-all solutions in life, rather than simply being spoon-fed information and taught a single, formulaic way to solve life’s problems.

3. International-Mindedness and Cultural Awareness

While the everyday interactions between students of different backgrounds alone provide valuable exposure, the IB program is specifically designed to cultivate a global perspective and a deeper understanding of diverse cultures among students.

Though they aren’t exactly considered as technical skills, cultural awareness and international-mindedness are seen as essential in today’s increasingly interconnected world.

One of the ways this is taught in the program is through the Creativity, activity, service (CAS) component, which promotes experiential learning beyond the traditional classroom setting by getting students involved in various creative projects, physical activities, as well as community service.

Here are simple examples of some of the activities:

Creativity: Music, writing, dance, theatre, graphic design, photography, videography, coding, and event management

Activity: Sports, martial arts, yoga, hiking and outdoor expeditions, dance, and fitness challenges

Service: Fundraising, environmental cleanups, tutoring and mentoring, volunteering at NGOs, organising charity events, food or clothing drives, and awareness campaigns and outreach

This component of the program aims to help students engage with global issues, community service, and cultural exchanges, while still prioritising their academics.

It encourages students to respect and empathise with diverse cultures and perspectives, promoting open-mindedness in those seeking to grow their intercultural and global competencies.

When people see themselves as global citizens instead of just members of their own local community, it builds them up for success and enhances their career readiness for the future.

4. Strong Communication and Collaboration Skills

Having strong communication and collaboration skills is what helps people stand out in the workforce, especially for those just starting out in the field.

IB graduates immediately fall into that category thanks to the nature of the program’s teaching philosophy and its emphasis on these skills in its syllabus.

This is taught through group projects, debates and discussions, presentations, discussion-based learning, language classes, as well as the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Extended Essay (EE) components of the program.

As the IB program components foster effective communication, they allow students to learn the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and leadership—all of which are skills they can carry with them into their future international careers.

5. Preparation for Higher Education and Global Careers

With an IB diploma, students are essentially given a stepping stone to their university journey overseas and even their professional careers ahead.

Regardless of which university destination you end up choosing—whether it’s in Australia, Europe, or the US, the curriculum not only prepares students for the academic challenges ahead but also equips them with the self-management skills necessary to thrive in fast-paced international work environments.

That’s what makes the IB program so unique and helps it stand out: it’s designed for the future in mind.

How AIS Supports Families Relocating from the Middle East

At a Glance

The 91porn (AIS) in Singapore offers Middle East families seamless curriculum continuity across IB, HSC, and IGCSE pathways. AIS enrols children from infant care through to Year 12, supporting entire families through the transition. A dedicated admissions team provides personalised guidance, virtual consultations, and flexible entry options throughout the academic year.

In This Article

Why Middle East Families Choose AIS Singapore

Middle East families choose AIS for its Australian-international curriculum, English-speaking environment, and a student body representing over 60 nationalities. Singapore shares many lifestyle similarities with Dubai and Abu Dhabi, including personal safety, modern infrastructure, and a well-established expat community.

AIS is part of Cognita, a global education group operating schools across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. For families already in a Cognita school, the transition is supported at group level.

Singapore is a 7-hour direct flight from Dubai. Families relocating from the Gulf region find familiar rhythms here: a thriving dining scene, year-round warm weather, reliable public services, and strong professional networks in finance, technology, and regional management.

Not sure if AIS is the right fit? Book an online consultation with our admissions team to discuss your family’s needs – particularly helpful for families researching from overseas.

One School for the Whole Family: Infant Care to Year 12

AIS infant care play-based learning environment

Most families relocating from the Middle East are moving together, with children across a range of ages. AIS is one of the few international schools in Singapore that enrols children from 2 months through to Year 12 on a single campus. This means siblings at different stages can attend the same school, simplifying drop-offs, building a shared school community, and giving families one point of contact.

Age Groups at AIS

For families with very young children, AIS provides continuity from the earliest years through to senior school graduation. There is no need to change schools as children grow, and the transition between divisions is managed internally.

Curriculum Pathways: IB, HSC, and IGCSE

AIS Singapore science laboratory

AIS is the only school in Singapore offering three internationally recognised senior school pathways. This breadth means students from virtually any curriculum background can find a pathway that maintains their academic trajectory.

Your Child’s Current Curriculum AIS Pathway Transition Recognised By
IB (PYP, MYP, or DP) IB Diploma Programme Seamless continuation IBO (ibo.org)
British / IGCSE / A-Levels Cambridge IGCSE Direct alignment Cambridge Assessment International Education
Australian curriculum HSC (Higher School Certificate) Seamless continuation NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)
American / AP IB Diploma or IGCSE Supported transition School academic team
CBSE / Indian curriculum IB, IGCSE, or HSC Bridging support available School academic team

International Baccalaureate (IB)

AIS offers the full IB continuum from Primary Years Programme (PYP) through to the IB Diploma Programme. Students already enrolled in IB programmes at schools in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Doha can continue without disruption. AIS has been an since 2005.

Higher School Certificate (HSC)

The HSC is the NSW senior secondary qualification, recognised by universities worldwide. AIS is the only school in Singapore accredited by the to deliver this programme. Students receive an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) accepted by universities in Australia, the UK, the US, and across Asia.

Cambridge IGCSE

For students coming from British curriculum schools in the Gulf region (including GEMS, Taaleem, and other UK-curriculum providers), the Cambridge IGCSE pathway at AIS offers direct curriculum alignment. Courses follow the framework.

Curriculum Transition Support

Students switching between curriculum systems receive academic placement assessments to identify the best pathway and year level. The AIS academic team works with each family to plan the transition, including any bridging support needed for students moving between significantly different systems such as CBSE to IB.

Unsure which pathway suits your child? Book an online consult to meet our admissions team and see the learning environment firsthand.

Settling In: What Family Life Looks Like

AIS Singapore sports fields and campus grounds

Families relocating from the Gulf region find that daily life in Singapore shares many familiar patterns. The adjustment period is typically short, and most families report feeling settled within the first few months.

For Working Parents

Both parents can work in Singapore. The primary earner typically holds an , while the accompanying spouse receives a Dependant’s Pass with the option to apply for a Letter of Consent to work. Many multinational companies base their Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore, making it a natural career move for professionals in finance, technology, logistics, and regional management.

For Families with Young Children

Families with toddlers and pre-schoolers benefit from AIS accepting children from 2 months. Domestic help is available and regulated in Singapore, similar to the Gulf region, providing continuity for families accustomed to live-in support. Halal food options are widely available, and familiar Western and Middle Eastern grocery brands are stocked at major supermarkets.

Community and Lifestyle

Singapore has established expat communities from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Gulf states. Active social groups, cultural organisations, and professional networks help newcomers build connections quickly. The AIS parent community is welcoming and diverse, with families from over 60 nationalities. School events, parent groups, and co-curricular activities provide natural meeting points.

Popular family neighbourhoods near AIS include Serangoon, Bukit Timah, and Holland Village, all offering proximity to the school, green spaces, and a mix of local and international amenities. The school is a 7-minute walk from Lorong Chuan MRT station.

Boarding and Homestay Options

For secondary students (Year 7 to Year 12) whose parents are not relocating to Singapore, AIS offers a boarding and homestay programme through Oldham Hall, the school’s approved boarding facility. Residents must have an approved adult guardian. A counselling team, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and International Student Administrator provide ongoing support. Children under Year 7 must live with a parent or direct family member.

How the AIS Admissions Team Supports Relocating Families

The AIS admissions team provides personalised support for families relocating from the Middle East. The team is familiar with the specific concerns of Gulf-based families, including curriculum alignment, boarding logistics, and the practicalities of an international move.

What you can expect:

  • Virtual consultations for families still based in the Middle East
  • Guidance on which curriculum pathway suits your child’s academic background
  • Support with documentation and placement assessments
  • Flexible entry options throughout the academic year, including mid-year enrolment
  • Assistance with boarding and homestay arrangements where applicable
  • Campus tours available in person or virtually

Families can begin the process remotely, schedule an online consultation here.

Understanding the Costs

AIS school fees vary by year level and curriculum pathway. A full breakdown is available on the AIS fee structure page. Many employers offer relocation packages that cover school fees and housing allowances, which can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs.

Singapore’s cost of living is comparable to premium Dubai neighbourhoods for housing. Public transport is significantly cheaper and more extensive than in the Gulf. Groceries are similar in price, though imported Western and Middle Eastern products carry higher costs due to import duties. Halal food options are widely available.

For a detailed cost comparison between Singapore and Dubai, including housing, transport, healthcare, and daily expenses, see our guide to moving to Singapore from Dubai.

The Role of Play-Based Learning in Singapore’s Pre-Schools – Why Every Child Needs This /singapore-role-play-based-learning/ Thu, 12 Jun 2025 02:09:38 +0000 /?p=10239 The post The Role of Play-Based Learning in Singapore’s Pre-Schools – Why Every Child Needs This appeared first on 91porn in Singapore | AIS Singapore.

The Role of Play-Based Learning in Singapore’s Pre-Schools

In Singapore, early childhood education has always been widely recognised as the foundation to a child’s lifelong learning and development.

It’s scientifically proven that the first five years of a child’s life are crucial for development, as this is when the brain develops the fastest. While it may seem overstated, early experiences during these years can shape a child’s cognitive behaviours for the rest of their life.

That said, start exploring preschool admissions as early as possible if you have the opportunity to do so. Believe it or not, it can get competitive.

While attending preschool is not legally compulsory in Singapore, it is strongly and widely recommended as it prepares children for their primary school years.

As the nation continues to advance its education system, there’s been a rise in play-based learning in early childhood education both in Singapore and around the world. Not only does this integrate both fun and education in learning, but it also fosters creativity and social skills in young children.

Curious to learn more about it? Keep reading!

1. Encourages Holistic Development

Play-based learning is built around the concept of purposeful play, where learning opportunities through play are enjoyable, engaging, and educational all at the same time.

In terms of the role it plays in a child’s holistic development, this teaching approach has the ability to support a child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development—all of which are crucial in their early years.

Take a look at some of the ways in which traditional teaching differs from play-based learning:

Traditional teaching:

  • Focuses on academic results through standardised assessments
  • Curriculum heavily focuses on academic skills including reading, writing, math, and science
  • Passive learning style that typically involves listening, repetition, and rote memorisation
  • Involves direct instruction from the teacher with structured lessons and clear framework, though with limited flexibility in terms of curriculum development
  • Teachers present the syllabus content while students merely absorb the information in a controlled classroom setting

Play-based learning:

  • Focuses on a student’s holistic development for a more well-rounded education
  • Curriculum fosters problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity
  • Interactive and hands-on learning style to keep students engaged and have more flexibility to cater to their specific needs
  • Encourages children to lead their own exploration and discovery through play, with the guidance of their teachers
  • Teachers guide and facilitate learning instead of only directly instructing students

These comparisons alone show that adopting play-based learning can lead to better outcomes for your child in the long run.

2. Fosters Creativity and Critical Thinking

When you allow children to discover new ideas and solve problems on their own in a hands-on learning environment, they are more likely to develop strong creativity and critical thinking skills. That’s where play-based learning comes in.

The whole point of unstructured play is to allow children to explore concepts, test hypotheses, and develop critical thinking skills at their own pace. Through various activities such as storytelling and arts and crafts, this will allow them to use their imagination and unleash their creative side.

With this approach, kids will also learn how to think on their feet and make decisions on their own, instead of always being spoon fed all the answers and solutions.

It’s essential to note that while they may still be young and in need of guidance from their parents and teachers, they also need to start cultivating a sense of independence from an early age.

Children are more intelligent and capable than we often give them credit for. The role of parents is to create a supportive environment for them to express themselves and solve problems creatively.

3. Improves Social Skills and Emotional Intelligence

Through the course of their life, children will inevitably cross paths with people from all walks of life. Some they’ll get along with easily, and others who might be different from them.

That’s why it’s not just helpful but essential for them to learn how to navigate social situations, build empathy, regulate their emotions, and work with others. The best way to teach these skills? Start early.

Learning through play is one of the most effective and easiest ways to do just that. It provides a wide range of learning opportunities including communication practice, the importance of teamwork, understanding non-verbal social cues, as well as building friendships. On top of that, it happens in a way that comes most naturally to them and not in a forced or intimidating environment.

When you teach children the value of working with others, negotiating roles, and resolving conflict during group play activities, they naturally learn the importance of sharing, cooperation, and teamwork. all of which are essential skills that lay the foundation for success in school and later in life.

One of the key advantages of AIS is its seamless transition for students completing their N Levels in October.

Students can get their results in December and officially start Year 11 in January.

How AIS helps N-Level graduates succeed in their future education

1. Transitioning to the International Baccalaureate (IB) pathway

The International Baccalaureate (IB) programme at AIS is a globally recognised qualification designed to develop well-rounded, critical thinkers with a strong academic foundation.

The IB fosters independent research, global perspectives and analytical skills, ensuring students are well-prepared for university and beyond. With a focus on inquiry-based learning, AIS nurtures students’ curiosity and helps them build essential skills for higher education and future careers.

Through subjects spanning languages, sciences, mathematics and the arts, students engage in a rigorous yet holistic curriculum that challenges them to think critically and make meaningful connections across disciplines.

Additionally, the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) component encourages students to participate in extracurricular projects that build character, resilience, and a sense of social responsibility – qualities that universities and employers highly value.

2. Embracing the vocational & career-focused routes

If you prefer a practical and career-oriented approach, AIS offers pathways that emphasize real-world applications.

The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) provides a blend of academic study and professional training, allowing students to gain industry insights while pursuing their passion.

This programme integrates academic coursework with hands-on experience, enabling students to develop specialised knowledge and practical skills that align with industry demands.

Apart from that, another option you can consider is the New South Wales Higher School Certificate (HSC), as its curriculum offers the opportunity to specialise in specific areas of interest.

Whether you are drawn to business, technology, the creative arts, or STEM fields, AIS ensures that your education is both engaging and career-relevant.

This pathway is ideal for those seeking a hands-on approach to learning while maintaining the option to further their studies at university or enter the workforce with valuable skills.

3. Taking the Australian Curriculum pathway

The HSC is a rigorous and flexible qualification that is widely recognised by universities in Australia and around the world.

It provides students with subject choices tailored to their strengths and interests, ensuring they are well-equipped for higher education. With an emphasis on academic excellence, research skills and independent learning, the HSC pathway at AIS opens doors to prestigious universities and diverse career opportunities.

AIS ensures that students undertaking the HSC benefit from personalised support, including access to expert educators, study workshops and exam preparation resources.

With subjects ranging from advanced mathematics and sciences to humanities and creative arts, students can tailor their studies to align with their future aspirations.

The HSC’s assessment structure, which includes a mix of coursework and final exams, prepares students for the rigorous expectations of university life while fostering a strong work ethic and time management skills.

4. University & college preparation support

Navigating the university application process can be overwhelming, but at AIS, we provide dedicated support to help students make informed decisions about their future.

Our university guidance team assists with applications, scholarships and career planning, ensuring students find the best fit for their aspirations. With graduates securing placements in top universities worldwide, AIS is committed to setting students on a path to success.

5. Co-curricular & leadership opportunities for growth

Beyond academics, AIS offers a vibrant co-curricular program that fosters leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.

From student councils and leadership training to community service projects and extracurricular clubs, students are encouraged to explore their interests and develop valuable life skills. These experiences not only enrich their learning journey but also enhance their university applications, setting them apart in competitive admissions processes.

AIS provides numerous opportunities for students to step into leadership roles, whether through sports teams, music and drama productions, debate clubs, or environmental initiatives.

Participation in these activities helps students develop resilience, problem-solving skills and a strong sense of teamwork – qualities that contribute to their holistic development.

Through international exchange programs, service-learning trips, and leadership conferences, AIS students gain exposure to global perspectives and hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for life beyond school.

Why Choose An International Elementary School In Singapore

As a parent, ensuring the best possible head start in your child’s education is a priority. The choice of an elementary school plays a pivotal role in shaping their academic journey and overall development into well-rounded individuals.

In Singapore, where the educational landscape offers both local and international options, the choices might be confusing but the decision is still crucial.

Whether you’re an expat parent or a local, an international elementary school provides unique benefits that distinguish your child’s educational journey.

This article explores the advantages of selecting an international elementary school in Singapore with five good reasons why it might be the ideal choice for your child!

Local primary schools vs international elementary schools

In Singapore, parents often face the dilemma of choosing between local and international schools.

While local schools follow the national curriculum and provide a strong foundation in academics, international schools offer a broader perspective, emphasising global learning experiences.

Opting for an international elementary school introduces your child to a diverse environment, fostering a mindset that extends beyond borders. This helps them to reach their full potential and sets them up on a dynamic path of global learning.

Here’s why an international elementary school can offer you so much more.

How to select the best infant care option: 5 things to note

1. Gain a global perspective & cultural awareness

In our interconnected world, cultivating a global perspective is essential.

International elementary schools in Singapore create a multicultural environment that exposes students to various perspectives, traditions, and customs.

By interacting with peers from different backgrounds, your child develops cultural awareness and sensitivity, crucial skills in today’s global society. This exposure not only enriches their understanding of the world but also helps instil a sense of open-mindedness and appreciation for diversity.

2. Begin on a path of global academic recognition

Many international schools follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, renowned for its holistic approach to education.

The IB program focuses on developing students’ intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills, preparing them for a well-rounded education. An international school focuses on helping students excel in this specific pathway.

By enrolling your child in an international elementary school, you pave the way for a seamless transition into the IB program, enhancing their academic journey and ensuring a globally recognized education.

3. Experience an enriched curriculum & specialized programs

International elementary schools offer a dynamic curriculum that goes beyond traditional academic subjects. These schools often incorporate innovative teaching methods, interdisciplinary approaches, and co-curricular activities that nurture creativity and critical thinking.

Specialised programs, such as STEM or STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) initiatives, arts, and sports, provide students with a well-rounded education.

The emphasis on a broad range of subjects equips your child with a diverse skill set, preparing them for the challenges of an ever-evolving global landscape.

4. Opportunity to become multilingual from a young age

In the international school setting, multilingualism is not just encouraged; it’s a natural part of the learning process. Many international elementary schools in Singapore offer language programs, such as Mandarin or French, that go beyond the standard curriculum.

Exposure to different languages from a young age not only enhances linguistic skills but also fosters a deep appreciation for other cultures.

The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages is a valuable asset as your child progresses towards higher education, and eventually, the working world!

5. Emphasis on critical thinking & problem solving

International elementary schools prioritise the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The curriculum is designed to encourage students to question, analyze, and apply knowledge in real-world situations.

By fostering a culture of inquiry and independent thought, these schools empower students to approach challenges with confidence.

This emphasis on critical thinking not only enhances academic performance but also equips your child with essential skills for lifelong learning and success in any field.

Choosing an international elementary school in Singapore for your child is a decision that goes beyond academics. It’s an investment in their future, providing them with a foundation that extends beyond borders and prepares them to thrive in a globalized world!
